I went to bed last night thinking about all the craziness going on around with the virus and how we all are trying to cope with the situation. I thought about my day and how it started with a sweet text from Brother John and words of encouragement and well wishes. Later, in the morning, I ran an errand or two to "pick up the essentials" and it just hit me how different our world is during this time. I passed a church and noticed a few chairs, scattered about but in a very neat orderly manner in the parking lot in front of the front door of the church. They were about to hold a "Good Friday" service outside. As so often on a Easter weekend, it was a beautiful day yet there was a coolness in the air. Yes, things are different, but the one thing that is the same this Easter weekend, the Tomb is still empty!
Of course, my mind turned to wonder, what song will be in heart in the morning? What will I wake up too? Will it be one of those beautiful, amazing Easter songs the choir was preparing to sing. Will it be one of the wonderful old traditional hymns we sing at Easter services like "He Arose"? I even thought, will this be the morning, I don't wake up with a song at all?
To my delight, I woke to "Wonderful Grace Of Jesus". This beautiful hymn was written in 1918 by Haldor Lillenas. It is one of those traditional hymns, published in many hymnals and sung and recorded by many. I remember, years ago, purchasing a CD of The Cathedrals Quartet singing traditional hymns all acapella. I loved that CD and listened to it over and over again. (I might need to pull it out and enjoy it today.) "Wonderful Grace Of Jesus" was one of the songs on this CD and it was one of the songs The Cathedrals often preformed in their concerts. I hope you will enjoy hearing The Cathedrals as I woke up to them singing this morning!
