I have often been "kidded" about using the word "yonder". Someone will say, "where are you from?" as if "yonder" is some kind or word that should not be used. I looked it up in the dictionary and found the definition to be; at or in that indicated more or less distant place usually within sight. Perhaps, I learned "yonder" from this song. It's an old song I remember from growing up. I had not heard it in a long time but I heard it recently and I'm not sure exactly where. I'm pretty sure it was at my precious nephew's funeral a couple of weeks ago.
Well, I know where I'm from and I know where I'm going. It is a distant place but with each and every passing day, it's closer in sight. I don't know exactly what Heaven will be like. I can't possibly imagine the greatness of what Jesus has gone to prepare for us. But that place over yonder, is where my Jesus is and that's where I look forward to being also!
"Will You Meet Me Over Yonder" was written by R.E. Winsett many years ago. I remember it being one of the songs in the Redback Church Hymnal. I could not find the year it was actually written and the earliest recording I could locate was by the original Chuck Wagon Gang in 1936. It was not a song recorded by many but when recorded it was most often by a country or bluegrass style group.
The Happy Goodman Family preformed and recorded the song in the early 70's and I will share their link this morning! I hope you will enjoy hearing this old song today!
I hope you will have a happy Friday!
