Where We'll Never Grow Old

As I woke to this old song this morning, I thought of a meme a dear friend posted several days ago. It simply said, "I Thought Growing Old Would Take Longer". I chuckled when I read it and had to agree.

I often think about the days gone by and honestly it seems some of those days were not that long ago. I remember looking at my grandparents thinking about their age and now I realize I'm older now than they were when I was thinking about how old they were. It wasn't that long ago, I was telling people I feel as good as I've ever felt in my life. Now here I am, no longer able to work, on oxygen, and facing eye surgery. Kind of like an old car, when some part wears out and has to be replaced, look out there is something else that possibly is about to go wrong. An older friend of mine use to say, "Getting old isn't for sissies." LOL (excuse me, that my not be political correct. LOL) There's a 90 something year old lady who is dear to me that often says, "I've worked a lot of jobs in my life but getting older is the hardest job of all." Getting older has come quickly but I am so thankful for each and every day the Good Lord gives me to live, enjoy and serve Him.

"Years of time are swiftly passing, bringing nearer Heaven's door. Soon, I'll be at home with Jesus, while eternal ages roll." But that's not the song I woke up to this morning.

"Where We'll Never Grow Old" was written in 1914 by James C. Moore. It has been published in many hymnals, sung by many individuals, congregations, and choirs. It has been popular with many country artists and gospel singers also. One of my favorites, I loved hearing was Jack Laws with The Inspirations. I don't recall when they first recorded it but it was several years ago and has been included on several of their recordings. Jack passed away several years ago, but Luke Vaught, who now plays the piano with the group and often sings baritone will almost always include "Where We'll Never Grow Old" in their services. The tradition continues.

I hope you will have an awesome Saturday!
