I sure seem to wake up on Sunday to a lot of songs I associate with Elvis I know I listened to Mom's Elvis albums a lot but maybe I listened to them a lot of Sunday mornings before Jubilee. Of course, many will remember Elvis' soulful rendition of "Where Could I Go But To The Lord" but another one of my favorite recordings of the song was by Emily Lou Harris on her "Angel Band" album. I could go on and on as this old song has been sung and recorded by many.
"Where Could I Go But To The Lord" was written in 1940 by J. B. Coats. Mr. Coats began writing songs and leading evangelistic singings around the age of 14. But the story behind this song was inspired before that. Mr. Coats was sitting besides a dying neighbor and he asked the gentleman if he knew where he would spend eternity. The old gentleman profoundly stated, "Where Could I Go But To The Lord?' Those words stuck with Mr. Coats and several years, while teaching a singing school, he wrote this song.
As I said earlier, this song has been recorded by many and across many different musical genres. The simple question, "Where Could I Go But To The Lord" reminds us that in any circumstances, good or bad, facing problems or a beautiful day, or making our final journey home, there is no where else to turn except to The Lord.
I hope you will be blessed to hear "Where Could I Go But To The Lord" on this beautiful Sunday morning!
