When My Feet Touch The Streets Of Gold

I am so blessed!!! I know I say that all the time, but I feel so often I may have been more blessed than anyone else. I hope we all feel like that! This morning I am feeling blessed because I had the opportunity to grow up with a love for good old gospel singing. (Just think, I could be writing a blog everyday about heavy rock music. LOL) I'm so thankful gospel music has been an important part of my entire life. If its' a church hymn, a choir, a soloist, a local group traveling to local churches or a professional quartet traveling the country, I have loved them all. The words, the melodies, the harmonies, slow, toe tapping or whatever, when they are about God's love, Jesus, Calvary, Heaven, they all make me feel so blessed to have had that kind of foundation to help me on this life's journey.

Several weeks ago (actually because of the virus, I guess I should say several months ago) one of my sweet church friends asked me, "Do you know the song, 'When My Feet Touch The Streets Of Gold'?" At first I thought about another song with a similar title, but then I realized the particular song she was speaking of and the memories started flowing. I remembered, the LeFevres in the mid 70's and the Kingsmen Quartet probably considered it as one of their signature songs as they sang it for many years.

I'm going to "stretch and exercise" my memory this morning and if I am wrong, I pray that someone will correct me. I believe "When I Walk On The Streets Of Gold" was written by Conrad Cook when he was singing with Squire Parsons as members of the Calvarymen Quartet. Squire left the Calvarymen Quartet to join the Kingsmen and Conrad left to start a family group, the Calvary Echoes. Of course, we all know the many great songs written by Squire Parsons, but Conrad Cook also wrote many popular quartet numbers including "Glory Road". Before his death, Mr. Cook appeared on several of the Gaither videos that you may recall.

But I woke up to hearing the LeFevres. I seem to remember they recorded it a couple of times and sang it often but I may just be remembering I played the album they recorded "When I Walk The Streets Of Gold" in 1975 very often. I hope you will enjoy hearing it this morning and I hope one day you will hear it again.

I look forward to seeing you in church this morning!
