Yesterday evening, I was listening to gospel music, reading the scriptures and just having a good time. I heard a song, I had not heard in a while. I loved it as I use to consider it one of my favorites and I thought surely, that will be the one I will wake up by and I have stories to tell. But this morning God, said, "not so fast", "I've got this wake up thing for you" and I was even more surprised with my song of the morning! I love the way God works!
"When I Lift Up My Head" is a song the boys' quartet use to sing. It written in 1967 and one of the 2500 + songs written by Dottie Rambo during her life. The boy's quartet sang it often but probably the last time I heard it sang was the last time we did it. I probably have heard it again but I just don't remember. It's a great song, with words that are uplifting and bring joy especially during the difficult days we have been going through.
"When I'm down (when I'm down)
When I'm down and out (when I'm down and out)
When my heart (when my heart)
Is filled with fear and doubt
Then I lift up my head and He lifts up my heart
And my troubles just all roll away
Roll away, Lord (roll away)
Troubles rolled away, Lord (roll away, Lord)
Roll away, Lord (roll away)
Troubles rolled away, Lord (roll away, Lord)
When I lift up my head and He lifts up my heart
And my troubles just all roll away.
Well I can't see the sun with my head to the ground
Tears dim my vision and weigh my heart down
But I get this feeling when I kneel to pray
When I lift up my head and He lifts up my heart
And my troubles just all roll away."
I tried to find a version that would come as close as possible to sounding like the boy's quartet and the way we sung it but that was not possible (and that's probably a good thing. LOL) So I go back to the Gaither videos and it's hard to go wrong with those.
I hope you will enjoy hearing "When I Lift Up My Head" this morning!
