"What A Wonderful Time" (actually Reunion In Heaven) I believe was written in the early 50"s by Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. In the early to mid 60's it had started being sung by several gospel groups, The Gospel Echoes (The Rambos), The Kingsmen, The Oak Ridge Boys, Wendy Bagwell and The Sunlighters and I suspect there were others. But my first memory of this song was not until around 1968 or 1969.
The Inspirations had traveled out of the Great Smokey Mountains and started singing full time. Almost everyone will recall them singing their "signature song", "Jesus Is Coming Soon". It wasn't long and many other groups had followed suit and started to sing this great song. But "What A Wonderful Time' was another one of their songs, I looked forward to hearing them sing. In my opinion, it was as much a "signature song" as any other.
I believe "What A Wonderful Time" was their 4th album recorded in 1967 and "Jesus I Coming Soon" was their 5th recorded in 1968. Both songs were sang in services and concerts for many years and on occasion, if you attend a service today, you may be blessed with them still singing these songs over 50 years later. When I was singing in my younger days, "Jesus Is Coming Soon", we sang many times but never "What A Wonderful Time". But "What A Wonderful Time" or "Reunion In Heaven" was then and is now still one of my favorites.
I hope you never tire of me talking about The Inspirations and the songs that had such an impact on my life over the years. I'm so grateful for their ministry and the impact they have had on me and so many others. I hope you will enjoy hearing this timeless Inspiration classic this morning. I'm going to share 2 links. The first one is of Archie singing it on one of his solo projects and the second will be a very early video of the young guys singing probably around 1970.
I pray you will have a great Wednesday and I hope to see you in prayer meeting tonight!
