It's Saturday morning (early I might add) but that's certainly okay with me when I awake to an old song as "We'll Soon Be Done With Troubles and Trials". Obviously, the old Redback Church Hymnal has left and indelible mark on my life. It has been quite some time since I have thought of this song, but I remember it as one of my favorites growing up.
I think my first recollection of this song was with the old West Merritts Quartet singing it during our church services. As a kid, I loved hearing Bill singing those bass lines in any song. But I also remember, hearing it and singing it as a congregation song in all the churches I attended. (I don't recall singing or hearing it recently. Is it in the Baptist Hymnal? LOL) I guess the older songs have to move over and make room for the newer songs we enjoy singing today. (However, I think we have a little surprise in the morning. The choir is going to sing an old song, one of my favorites. It is a fun, toe tapping, grab a big breath and sing kind of song. I can't wait!) But back to my song of today.
"We'll Soon Be Done With Troubles and Trials", "Just A Little Talk With Jesus", "When God Dipped His Love In My Heart", and "When He Blessed My Soul" all have something in common. Besides being some of my favorites, they were all written by Rev. Cleavant Derricks. Rev. Derricks wrote over 300 songs and was a well known as a pastor, church builder, choir director, poet, musician, and composer. There's one more thing these songs have in common. They all have bass lead parts. No wonder I like them. (Sure wish I was capable of singing them but I will try when I get the chance, even if it's in the car. LOL) I could write a blog about each of these songs and maybe one day I will.
I hope you will enjoy hearing the Kingdom Heirs singing their version of "We'll Soon Be Done With Troubles and Trials".
Happy Saturday and I hope you will enjoy the extra day this year!
