Last Sunday morning, Brother Roger lead the congregation in the old great hymn, "Victory In Jesus". I remember him introducing it by saying it is one of the church's favorite songs. Well, I can't speak for the rest of the church, but as for me, it is one of mine. I'm reminded of this as I woke up to a song, I also love to hear, "Victory Is Sweet". And that led me to thinking about another song that I love, "Victory Was Won At Calvary".
As I sit here, gathering my thoughts and trying to write this morning's post, I just continue to receive blessing after blessing thinking about so many moments when I have heard or sung some of these great old songs. To rejoice and give thanks for the victory that is ours, the victory we have because of Calvary, all because God loved us, and gave us His son, Jesus to win the battle for us! Yes, "the battle is His, the victory is won and victory is sweet"!
I remember this song from the early 80"s. It was often sung by The Singing Cookes, The McKameys and others. (And if you think Peg McKamey enjoyed singing "God On The Mountain, you would see the same kind of emotion when they sang this one too!) I believe it was written by Dee Gaskin. Ms. Gaskin may be best known for the gospel song, "Come Morning" written in the 80's and made popular by The Nelons.
As you probably have already guessed, I woke up to hearing The Inspirations. The Inspirations recorded "Victory Is Sweet" on their "The Wonder of Wonders" album in 1983. I always loved hearing them sing "Victory Is Sweet" but never more than on top of that mountain during the "Singing In The Smokies". To be outside, on the mountain, the heavens glowing with the moon and stars and hearing their voices echoing across God's beautiful creation gives me chills just thinking about it even after all these many years later. What a very special and incredible memory.
I pray you will enjoy hearing "Victory Is Sweet" and it will be a blessing to you this morning!
