Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus

I loved waking up to this song this morning. What was kind of interesting for me, is that I woke up to a piano playing instead of voices singing. Maybe because, I have heard "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" as an instrumental a lot more than I have heard it sung. But I always find myself wanting to sing the words when I hear the playing of this amazing song. Several weeks ago, I was walking through a department store that has a piano next to the escalators. The store often has someone playing and you can almost hear the piano though out the store. That day, I heard, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" and it was beautiful. Made all the shopping even better. This is probably the last time I heard this magnificent hymn.

"Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" was written by Helen Howarth Lemmel in 1922. It is said, she was a humble, godly woman with incredible vocal, musical and literary talent. I understand she wrote almost 500 poems and hymns and also a well known children's book, "The Bible Story". But instead of my poor attempt to tell her story, I found a short video clip you may be interested in watching.

Today we are experiencing things in our world like never before, Covid-19, strange weather and so many other things, These things can often cause, fear, anxiety, and trouble with virtually everyone. But perhaps the words of this song should be our focus.

"O soul, are you weary and troubled? No light in the darkness you see? There’s light for a look at the Savior, And life more abundant and free! Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace!"

I am thankful that over the years, God has inspired so many to write songs that bring comfort, joy and remembrance of the things that are truly important every day of our lives. I'm thankful for "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" this morning and I hope you will also enjoy hearing it.
