Touring That City

It was awesome to wake up to one of my favorite songs sung by The Inspirations! It is a song that I have heard them sing for so many years. I remember when they recorded it on their 13th album (I believe about 1973) but they recorded it again on their first live album released in about 1976 or 77. (I was so glad they were making a live album and my cousin and I drove to Warner Robbins, GA so we could say we were there!) "Touring That City" is almost always one of the songs they sing in every concert even today.

"Touring That City" was written by Harold Lane. Mr. Lane spent many years singing gospel music and he wrote many notable songs. He wrote, "Standing On the Solid Rock", "What Sins Are You Talking About" and many others. He is probably best known for the time he spent singing with the Speer Family. I had forgot he wrote "Touring That City" until I was looking for the link to post. And then to my delight, I was looking at Facebook this morning and I had a post from The Gospel Music Hall of Fame acknowledging today would have been Mr. Lane's birthday. Coincidence? Probably not. I think this is just the way God works!

The first link is "Touring That City" from their first live recording titled "A Night of Inspiration". The second link is several years later from a show called the "Grand Ole Gospel Reunion". This is a "two for" as it also features them singing another one of their most popular songs, "When I Wake Up To Sleep No More". I also like this second link as it is an old quartet set up using only two microphones. Don't get me wrong. I like each singer having their own mic but it is reminiscent of the early days of quartet singing. I hope you will enjoy this morning's song.
