I love this old hymn and I have so many fond memories of this song. I'm always amazed how my memory fails me so many times, yet so often I can remember many special times from years ago. I know I'm not the only one but I still find it amazing how God allows (or wants) us to remember those times and moments.
The special time I'm referring to that I'm remembering this morning goes back to my days as a teenager. A group of about 20 of us were sitting around at a friend's house. One of the guys had brought his guitar and we were singing. Someone started singing "Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus" and we all joined in. I believe the Holy Spirit was moving in a sweet and mighty way as I think tears was flowing with each one there. That is one event that I pray as long as I have breath I will never forget!
This is an old hymn that dates back to the late 1800's when Louisa Stead wrote these words after the loss of her husband in a drowning accident. They were on a picnic with their young daughter when Mr. Stead attempted to save a young boy who was drowning in a lake close by. Both of them died. Mr. Stead's death left his family, with no means of support and they lived very poor. Mrs. Stead and her daughter never lost their trust and faith in God during this difficult time. In later years, Mrs. Stead and her daughter became missionaries in South Africa.
Yes it is so sweet to trust in Jesus! I pray you will enjoy hearing this great old hymn this morning!
I hope you have a great Friday!
