I woke up this morning to thunder, lightning, wind, rain and this song. As with "His Eye Is On The Sparrow", "Till The Storm Passes By" seems to have also become one of the theme songs of the virus pandemic spreading around the world. I have seen so may social media posts referencing these songs. I first remember this song from my visits to Glenn Haven Baptist Church in Decatur, GA as a teenager. I mentioned this church in a number or posts before. Rev. Ralph Easterwood, their associate pastor, would often sing this song with their choir and I enjoyed it ever time I was able to hear it.
"Till The Storm Passes By" was written in 1958 by one of my favorite songwriters, Mosie Lister. After studying music, Mr. Lister actually began his musical career singing. He was an original member of the Sunny South Quartet, leaving later to form the Melody Masters Quarter with Jim Weatherington (later to become "Big Chief") . In 1948, he became one of the original members of The Statesmen Quartet. A few years later, he gave up his professional singing career to devote his full time to writing and arranging music. Mr. Lister has given us so many songs including, “Then I Met The Master”, “I’m Feelin’ Fine”, “His Hand In Mine”, "Where No One Stands Alone", "How Long Has It Been", "At The Crossing", "Good Bye World, Good Bye", "He Knows Just What I Need", "I've Been Changed", "Led By The Master's Hand", "Shoutin' Ground" just to name a few. He also wrote, "While The Ages Roll" that I had the privilege of trying to sing during the morning service at church a few weeks ago. I hope you will be blessed to hear, "Till The Storm Passes By" this morning!
