"and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass." Revelation 21:21
In 1978, The Cathedrals recorded an album entitled "Sunshine and Roses" and one of my favorite songs on the recording was "The Streets Of Gold". This is another toe-tapper and I enjoyed hearing it this morning as I do not recall hearing it recently.
There have been so many songs written and sung about the golden streets of Heaven. "Golden Street Parade", "When I Walk On The Streets of Gold", "When My Feet Touch The Streets Of Gold" are just three more that come to my mind. You know, my simple little mind can not completely understand "How Beautiful Heaven Must Be" but I'm looking forward to experience all that it has to hold. But most of all "I Want To See Jesus, The One Who Died For Me", making it all possible.
In this life we place so much value in gold. It is a precious metal we cherish, we collect it, we want our jewelry made of it, We store it away in vaults and I believe we are suppose to base our currency on gold. But just think, one day, when we get to Heaven, all the treasures we pursue on this earth will no longer be our focus. The gold we work so hard to accumulate here, will be reduced to the pavement of the streets of that City. No matter how precious the jewels and materials that make up the physical construction of Heaven, they will be pale in comparison to being with the One who loved us, died for us and built a place for us to spend with Him throughout all eternity.
The father of a dear friend is taking his final steps on his journey from this life and the other day, he told her "soon I'll be running on the streets of gold". Now that's something to look forward to as we come to the end of our journey on this earth. What a "Blessed Assurance", a source of strength and comfort. "What A Day That Will Be"!
I pray you will enjoy hearing this old gospel song this morning!!! I hope you will tap your toes and rejoice, knowing the promise of being able to walk (or run) on "The Streets of Gold".
