"I have good news to bring and that is why I sing". What a wonderful old song from the Redback Church Hymnal to wake to this morning! I remember this being sung so many times when I was just a kid but another one of those songs I do not hear much anymore. And when I do hear it, it is arranged a little differently with a little "modern" flair. That's ok, but I like the older style better.
I'm a little late with my post this morning. Not because I slept late but because, I was trying to do a little research about the song's history. I could not find too much. The Church Hymnal shows it was copyrighted in 1939 by The Tennessee Music and Printing Company and arranged by Alphus Lefevre. "Uncle Alph" as he was affectionately known was a member of several groups but most notably, The Lefevres for so many years. He was well known as a singer, songwriter, composer, arranger, pianist, accordionist, guitarist, and violinist. I remember him with his big smile and playing the accordion.
There are so many choices to post this morning, the new version, the not so new version and old versions. I feel challenged to post one that you will enjoy hearing today. I woke to hearing it sung by a congregation but those versions are usually not too good on You Tube (in my opinion). So I will post an old version by The Leferves and a more recent recording by The Chuck Wagon Gang.
I pray you will have a beautiful and happy Friday!
