The Lifeboat

As I have said several times in previous messages, I don't guess I'll understand why God wakes me up with a song. I try not to question but I've sat here a while this morning, thinking about this song and honestly wondering, why, this morning. I realize there are times when I have recently heard a song, it's touched me and He brings it back to me to start my day. Other times, I recognize the song has a particular message to me or someone I know who is going through a type of circumstance and the song brings encouragement. Sometimes it's just a reminder to give Him praise and worship. As I ramble on typing, I'm just trying to get my arms about this old hymn and what I should say today.

"The Lifeboat" is an old song by Rev. M. M. Brabham written in the late 1800's. It has been published in numerous hymnals and sung by many. When I hear the song, I think of the Goodmans and the LeFevres as I heard them sing it so often when I was growing up. David Phelps is one of the artists known today for singing it. But this is one of those old hymns I really enjoy reading the words.

"We’re floating down the stream of time, We have not long to stay; The stormy clouds of darkness Will turn to brightest day. Then let us all take courage, For we’re not left alone; The lifeboat soon is coming To gather the Jewels home.

Refrain: Then cheer, my brother, cheer, Our trials will soon be o’er, Our lov’d ones we shall meet, shall meet, Upon the golden shore. We’re pilgrims and we’re strangers here, We’re seeking a city to come, The lifeboat soon is coming, To gather the Jewels home.

Sometimes the Devil tempts me, And says it’s all in vain To try to live a Christian life And walk in Jesus’ name; But then we hear the Master say, “I’ll lend you a helping hand, And if you’ll only trust Me, I’ll guide you to the land.

The lifeboat soon is coming, By eyes of faith I see As she sweeps thro’ the waters To rescue you and me, And land us safely in the port With friends we love so dear. “Get ready,” cries the Captain; “Oh, look, she’s almost here."

Oh, now’s the time to get on board, While she is passing by; But if you stand and wait too long, You shall forever die; The fare is paid for one and all, The Captain bids you come, And get on board the lifeboat, She’ll carry you safely home."

I pray your day will be blessed!!!
