During the 1970's, Rev. Colbert and Joyce Croft became well known for the amazing songs they composed. It is said that they wrote over 5000 songs in their lifetime. But songwriting was secondary to their ministry, as they were known for their evangelism conducting services all over. Ministry was not his vocation, it was his life.
Perhaps their best known song is "I Can't Even Walk Without You Holding My Hand". You may also remember, "I Believe When He Died, He Died For Me", "Is That Footsteps That I Hear" and "Flow Through Me" just to name a few. But "The First Million Years" has been one of my favorites since it was first recorded by The Inspirations in 1975.
"Take these hands that are weary,
Help these feet to walk straight.
I want to be near You when I see those Eastern Gates.
Then if You'll permit me,
I'll wash Your feet with my tears,
And then I want to praise You the first million years.
The first million years in Glory,
And as long as Eternity rolls.
Let me ever abide close by Your side,
And let me praise You the first million years.
Take this life that I'm living,
Let me walk in Your ways.
I want to be faithful to that Great Homecoming Day,
Then if You'll permit me,
I'll wash Your feet with my tears,
And then I want to praise You the first million years."
I read the scriptures, listen to songs and hear what others say about Heaven, how it will be and what we will experience. With my simple human mind, I'm not sure I can even grasp what Heaven will truly be like. But a couple of things I know for sure, I want to see Jesus, thank Him for dying for me, and praise Him throughout all eternity!
Several weeks ago, I heard "The First Million Years" sung by a group I was not familiar with and don't know anything about them this morning. But I enjoyed their version of this song and I thought you might also!
But because I woke up to the version I have heard for years (and not to disappoint), I will also post a link to the original recording of "The First Million Years" by The Inspirations.
I hope you will have an terrific Tuesday!
