That Heavenly Home

I will always remember the summer revivals. They are always a great time of singing, shouting, preaching, praying. Souls are saved. Lives rededicated. I had two uncles who were preachers and with me singing in a quartet, there was always an opportunity to attend summer revivals when I was growing up. I enjoyed the day services as they always seem to be precious moments in worship and a great way to prepare our hearts for the night services.

As I woke this morning, to "That Heavenly Home", I started thinking about so many of the songs I have woke up to recently. So many of those great songs and hymns that were sung with passion during those summer revivals. Of course, this summer has been different. With the virus, it has made just going to Church on Sunday mornings difficult. I have read about and heard stories of Churches who have continued their tradition of a summer revival but it has been reported that the virus has spread among those in attendance. I just don't know but I find myself praying more and more for understanding and God's protection on our lives as we journey through these times.

But I said all that to say, this week, I've kind of had my own summer revival. God has blessed me with some of those good old 'revival" songs. I have been able to listen to my favorite quartet twice this week in online church services. I was able to attend Sunday morning services and Wednesday night prayer meeting with several of my church family. Well, my "summer revival" was with "social distancing" but isn't it good there is no "social distance" from God?

That Heavenly Home" is another of those old songs I have always love to hear and sing. Since I mentioned my favorite quartet (as I often do) I thought I would also mention that The Inspirations recorded "That Heavenly Home" on their very first album, "Our Pioneer Heritage" in 1966. This morning, I will share a more recent recording of Gerald Wolfe from one of his Church Hymnal Singings. I hope you will be blessed today and will enjoy listening to "That Heavenly Home".
