In the early 70's, Elmer Cole wrote this song that quickly became a favorite of choirs and groups. There were very few southern gospel quartets and other artists who did not include it in a recording. The group I sang with in the early 70's also sang "Ten Thousand Years" and it was one of our most requested. I must admit, after all these years, I still enjoy when I hear it.
The term "Ten Thousand Years" has been used in many hymns to describe eternity. After all it is a very long time especially considering on average we only spend 80 years in this life. "When we've been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun. We've no less days to sing God's praise, than when we first begun." I wonder how many times we sung these words? So what a wonderful thought to think that after ten thousand years we will just be started. Just be started to sing God's praises and all that eternity has in store for us.
I don't know a lot about Elmer Cole other than he sang a couple of years with The Statesman Quartet and a few years later for a short time with Willie Wynn and The Tennesseans. But I do know he wrote an amazing song with "Ten Thousand Years".
"Soon I'll come to the end of my journey
And I'll meet the One who gave His life for me
And I will thank Him for the love that He gave me
And ten thousand years or more I'll reign with Him
We will just begin to sing loves sweet story
And it’s a song that the angels they just could not sing
And I've been redeemed by the blood of my Savior
And ten thousand years or more I'll praise His name
Ten thousand years... We'll just be started
Ten thousand years... We've just begun
The battle will be over... And the victory is won
Ten thousand years... And we've just begun
Ten thousand years... We'll just be started
Ten thousand years... We've just begun
The battle will be over... And the victory is won
Ten thousand years... And we've just begun
For the battle is over & the victory's been won... Ten thousand years and we've just begun.
Ten thousand years... And we've just begun."
I hope you will enjoy hearing this great song today!
