Tell It To Jesus Alone

One of my favorite songs begins the first verse with the words, “Let me tell you about my Friend, on whom I depend. He’s the best friend I’ve ever known.” G. T. Dad Speer in the mid 40’s wrote another favorite song of mine, “The Dearest Friend I Ever Had”. There’s another song we have all sang many times, “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”.

The dictionary defines a friend as one who is attached by affection, a favored companion. And while those definitions are a description of the relationship we have with Jesus, I really find it difficult to describe with words the true friendship I have in Him. I have been blessed with so many close friends, friends and good acquaintances in my life. Jesus went to Calvary and died for my sins. Rose again to live for ever more. In 1876, Edmond Lorenz wrote the words, “Tell it to Jesus, He is a friend that’s well known; you have no other such a friend or brother, tell it to Jesus alone”.

How wonderful to have our sweet friends to talk with, share our joys, excitment, experiences, fears and anxieties with and it brings us comfort. But think about our conversations with Jesus. It doesn’t matter the day, the time or anything. He is there for us. In Jesus we find the peace, joy and comfort that passes all understanding.

“Tell It To Jesus Alone” is an old hymn I have heard my entire life (I seem to say that often). I remember our youth choir singing it often. But my most vivid memory of hearing it was from an a cappella CD by The Cathedral Quartet I believe I bought in the late 80’s.

I pray you will be blessed listening to “Tell It To Jesus Alone” today!
