Take The Name Of Jesus With You

Updated: May 1, 2020

I woke this morning with another old hymn from the Redback. One of the hymns I remember being sung so often throughout my childhood and my life. I always find it amazing when I wake up to a song I have not heard in years. Well, if I have I don't remember it. LOL

"Take The Name Of Jesus With You" was written in 1870 by Lydia Baxter and has been published in many hymnals over the years. I read this morning she wrote many other songs, but as I quickly read the list, this is the only one I recognized. But I can understand how this precious hymn has stood the test of time. When we take Jesus with us, we will know and feel the joy and comfort he gives.

"Take the name of Jesus with you,

Child of sorrow and of woe.

It will joy and comfort give you,

Take it then wherever you go. Precious name, O how sweet!

Hope of earth and joy of Heaven.

Precious name, O how sweet!

Hope of earth and joy of Heaven. Take the name of Jesus ever

As a shield from every snare;

If temptations ‘round you gather,

Breathe His holy name in prayer. At the name of Jesus bowing,

Falling prostrate at His feet;

King of kings in Heaven we’ll crown

Him When our journey is complete. Precious name, O how sweet!

Hope of earth and joy of Heaven.

Precious name, O how sweet!

Hope of earth and joy of Heaven."

I hope you will enjoy hearing the Chuck Wagon Gang sing this old hymn. Also, I found a very soulful version sung by George Younce. I thought I would post this as I had never heard George sing this before.

I pray you will have a terrific Thursday!
