Surely Goodness And Mercy

Psalm 23

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."

After the amazing day I had yesterday, it was no wonder I woke to this old hymn this morning. After an afternoon of visiting and sharing thoughts stories, laughter and tears with old friends, we recited together this passage of scripture. I guess this may be the most recited or read scripture to provide comfort during time of grief. And certainly it does bring that level of peace and comfort during times of loss.

But I also find it a passage that brings great strength as we go through our daily lives. The very first verse assures me the Lord will take care of me, nothing is forgotten, every need He supplies. As we continue reading, we can see how He guides us and directs us. As we get to the last verse, it's simple words states so clearly, when the Lord is our God, we will have will have his mercy and goodness in every aspect of our life and throughout all our days. Perhaps this is why, I recall this being one of the favorite songs of our youth choir when I was a teenager.

They say you can find anything on the internet. But this morning, I could not find a version I really wanted to post. I also try to find a rendition at least somewhat similar to what I heard as I woke. Today, I was not successful, so I will post the music with printed lyrics and we can all sing together as if we were at church.

I pray you will enjoy singing "Surely Goodness And Mercy" this morning and that you will have an incredible Saturday!
