"There’s a call comes ringing o’er the restless wave, “Send the light! Send the light!” There are souls to rescue, there are souls to save, Send the light! Send the light!
Refrain: Send the light, the blessed Gospel light; Let it shine from shore to shore! Send the light, and let its radiant beams Light the world forevermore!
We have heard the Macedonian call today, “Send the light! Send the light!” And a golden off’ring at the cross we lay, Send the light! Send the light!
Let us pray that grace may everywhere abound, “Send the light! Send the light!” And a Christlike spirit everywhere be found, Send the light! Send the light!
Let us not grow weary in the work of love, “Send the light! Send the light!” Let us gather jewels for a crown above, Send the light! Send the light!"
It is such a joy to wake up to one of the old Church Hymnal songs I remember being sung so often in my youth. Don't recall hearing it as much recently. It was written by Charles H. Gabriel and first published in 1888. Writer or composer of 7000 to 8000 songs during his lifetime, "Send The Light" was considered to be his first "commercial song" and was written especially for a mission celebration.
As we celebrate the 244th birthday of our great nation today, I pray we will also remember as this song asks, that we always do whatever we can to see that God's Word is proclaimed. While we as individuals may not be able to travel the world, we can in our own personal "worlds" share the Gospel light with those around us. I hope you will enjoy hearing this old hymn this morning!
I hope you will have a happy and safe Fourth of July!
