Safe In The Arms Of Jesus

In a few days, if I continue to be blessed with a song each morning, I will post the 500th message. When I first started, I was not sure I would post the second one, or the third, and so on but here I am still trying to write and express my thoughts every day. I don't know how long God will bless me with a song each day but I have felt so blessed for the songs and the opportunity to share. I thank a dear friend and my cousin for the encouragement to do this.

Over these almost 500 mornings, I have posted several hymns penned by Fanny Crosby. I don't think that would be any surprise as Fanny Crosby may be considered as one of the most impactful hymn writers ever. I have read where she is credited with over 9000 poems and hymns and others have said she is known for over 3000 hymns being published. The words of her hymns have brought so many comfort, peace, joy, security, strength in their faith. If I mention the songs "Blessed Assurance", "Pass Me Not Oh Gentle Savior", "To God Be The Glory" , "Praise Him, Praise Him", "Jesus Is Tenderly Calling You Home", "Draw Me Nearer", "Near The Cross" are just a few that I think of this morning. (I think I'm right on all of these.) I love the story of how she responded by how she will recognize Jesus when she reaches Heaven since she was blind. She said, it will be wonderful that He would be the first that she sees and she would recognize Him by His smile and the prints in His nailed scarred hands. I hope sometime during eternity, I can sit down with her and listen to her story.

"Safe In The Arms Of Jesus" is another one of Fanny Crosby hymns. I can not tell you the last time I heard it. It might have been hearing George Beverly Shae during a Billy Graham Crusade. I have heard a couple of different stories with the writing of this song. One story says that she wrote it for an individual who was going on a trip for Sunday School Convention and another story was she wrote it after the loss of a child. Regardless of how she was inspired to write "Safe In The Arms Of Jesus" many have said it was one of her greatest hymns with its emphasis of the Savior's love for us and the peace and safety we have as He has His loving arms wrapped around us.

"Safe in the arms of Jesus,

safe on His gentle breast,

there by His love o’ershaded,

sweetly my soul shall rest."

I pray you will blessed hearing this great old hymn today!

I hope you will have a great Saturday!
