Rainbow Of Love

How many of you remember this old song? What a joy to wake up to this old quartet song! It again brings back memories of the Merrits Ave. Church Quartet that I loved to hear as I grew up. As you may recall from a previous post, I always wanted to grow up and be able to sing bass like Bill and this is one of the songs I will never forget.

You probably will also remember from some of my previous posts, my recollections of the teenage boy's quartet. As I mentioned, Ms. Wade almost always picked the songs we would learn and sing and she did pick amazing songs that were perfect for us. However, on occasion, she would let us sing a song we picked. "Rainbow of Love" was one I wanted to sing. Again, Bill's bass singing had a big impact on me and after much begging we sang it. I do not recall singing it many times. I often wonder was this a song Ms. Wade really just didn't think was right for the group, or was it because the bass singer (Me) just had no idea of what he was doing? I never asked, but my thoughts lean to the latter. But I always have enjoyed hearing quartets sing this song. Almost all the quartets sang and recorded this song in the 50's, 60's and 70's. Maybe it is not sung as much today, but I think it would be a crowd favorite if they did. Well, that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it!

Of course, I do not have a recording of Bill and the old church quartet singing "Rainbow of Love" or of the boy's quartet (Is that I hear hand claps in the background?) but I found several links and I wanted to share a bunch, but I will settle on one that I hope you will enjoy. This clip is from The Cathedrals Reunion video. I love this not only for the song, but it shows the enjoyment, George Younce and Glenn Payne always had for each other as well as the other members of their group through their storied history.

Ok, a little bonus for me this morning. While I did not wake up to this, I thought I would share another one I have always enjoyed. As I was thinking about George and Glenn and their enjoyment singing together, I remembered a song from the reunion video, Search Me, Oh God. I have never heard Glenn and/or George sing that I did not enjoy. Perhaps this will be a little extra special moment for your Thursday!
