Prayer Is The Key To Heaven …

But Faith Unlocks the Door

Yesterday was our National Day of Prayer. The first Thursday in May, is the annual observance designated by the United States Congress when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". A proclamation is signed each year by the President encouraging all Americans to pray. Throughout our country's history, we have always recognized that God is where our strength comes and we need to give thanks to Him. But there are also times like war and other times like we are going through now, when we turn to God and ask for help.

Perhaps one of the most posted scriptures on social media during this pandemic has been 2 Chronicles 7:14 "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." As I watched social media posts yesterday, the different comments on TV and the actual White House observance, it made me proud to know our Country continues to know we need God in our lives. But at the same time there was a little sadness on my part.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says; "Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." Yes, I'm glad we have a National Day of Prayer, but isn't it good to know, God is ready to hear from us anytime. Not only is He ready but wants us to call on Him, to give thanks, rejoice, to share our needs and wants. When we go to bed at night, wake up in the morning, throughout the day, all the time! My Dad, while he was alive,, loved for me to call and talk with him. My Heavenly Father feels the same. I guess that's why I love the Dottie Rambo song, "I Just Came To Talk With You Lord".

"Prayer Is The Key To Heaven But Faith Unlocks The Door" is a song I have enjoyed for many, many years and in my opinion no one could sing it like Jake Hess. Jake left an indelible mark on Southern Gospel Music. He had a long and storied career singing with several quartets most notably The Statesman and The Imperials. Actually, Jake may have been one of the first "contemporary Christian artists" (yes I said that in conjunction with liking Jake Hess LOL) when he formed The Imperials. He handpicked the members, they played electric guitars, drums … I mean they were out there at the time. But they had an incredible sound and were recognized as one of the best. Jake was a sweet, humble man who loved God and loved singing His praises. Even after becoming very ill and trying to stop traveling and singing, he just couldn't stop. He sang again with the Masters V, The Old Friends Quartet and of course was featured regularly on most of the Gaither videos up until his death. Jake is known for many songs, but "Prayer Is The Key To Heaven" is one of my favorites. I hope you will enjoy hearing it this morning!

I pray you will have a very good Friday!!!
