Oh Happy Day

I loved waking up to "Oh Happy Day" this morning!!! I wonder how many times we sang this at Corinth Church? But that was in my late teens and early 20's and I don't think I have heard it since except maybe in the movie that I think was called "Sister Act" or something like that. This is another one of those songs that I'm reminded of my dad's baby brother, Uncle Johnny. This is one he loved to sing and lead the congregation in singing.

This is a really old song. The words were written by Phillip Doddridge before 1751. (He died in 1751.) The music was adapted by Edward Rimbault before 1876. (He died in 1876.) The Redback Church Hymnal shows both names but does not give an exact date. It's hard not to tap your foot when you sing this old song and if you listen to it, get ready to be hear it and sing it all day! I love the chorus:

"Happy day, happy day,

When Jesus washed my sins away!

He taught me how to watch and pray,

And live rejoicing every day;

Happy day, happy day,

When Jesus washed my sins away!"

As you can see, I had trouble trying to decide on a link to post so maybe one of these you will enjoy! I liked them all! I hope you have a wonderful Wednesday. See you in prayer meeting tonight!
