Near The Cross

To wake up this morning to this wonderful Fannie Crosby hymn was especially touching this morning. Written in 1869, it is another one of those hymns that has stood the test of time. I grew up hearing it sung and it so often apart of church services today. I have mentioned previously that Ms. Crosby became blind at age 6, yet the words in her hymns paint a vivid image for all to see God, His Glory, His Love for us, and our hope for eternal life through His Son Jesus Christ!

It has been told, that late in Ms. Crosby's life, she was interviewed by an evangelist who asked her the question, if you could have one wish, what would it be? Her wish was said that she wanted to remain blind the rest of her life. When asked why, she responded by saying after being blind all these years, the next face I want to see is the face of Jesus. A statement of this nature, to me shows her faith, hope and trust in her Savior and makes it easier for me to understand how she was so inspired to write her beautiful hymns.

During this season, when our world has been turned upside down, I pray we all remember our precious Savior. The pain, suffering, and humiliation He endured. The blood He shed on the Cross at Calvary and not forget, the tomb that remains empty. And He did it all for you and me!

I pray for Jesus to keep me near the Cross!
