Yesterday morning, I received a Facebook feed the from Singing News, I believe. The feed simply asked, what is the one song that has had the most impact on your life. I thought about it for a while and I can honestly say there has not been just one song that has impacted me. Of course, if you are reading my posts you probably knew that without me saying it. I was curious how others responded. As I read through the comments, I was not surprised to see some of the songs, yet there were some songs, I don't think I have ever heard. But I also thought it was interesting the "variety" of songs that have had an impact on others.
When I told "my story" at church in August last year, I talked about and sang the song, "Though I've Failed Him, He Has Never Failed Me". I remember hearing this song the first time and it has had a great impact on me but there are so many others. Yesterday, as I continued thinking about the Singing News question, my thoughts were in hyper drive and many, many songs swirled through my head. I just knew one of them would wake me this morning but it didn't. Obviously, God had a different plan to start my day!
"More About Jesus" was playing loud and clear in my heart this morning! A song I remember hearing and singing since I was very young. But I remember vividly, "More About Jesus" being sung by Larry Ferguson, at Glen Haven Baptist Church in Decatur, GA. I don't recall if it was during a service or during their annual Jubilee, but it touched my heart and I listened to it often when I played the Glen Haven Baptist Church Choir album. I always enjoyed visiting Glen Haven Baptist but I especially enjoyed singing there when the boy's quartet were invited to participate in a service.
As with so many other older hymns, it too was written by someone who apparently was pretty special. A lady who loved Jesus, had faith in Him and put her total trust in Him. E. E Hewitt spent most of her life in a body cast due to a spinal illness. Written in 1987, a very difficult time in her life, she still expressed her spiritual desire to know more about the one she loved and put her trust and faith in. Certainly a passion we should all desire today.
"More About Jesus" has been sung by many, recorded by a lot and has been published in many church hymnals, yet today it is a song I rarely hear. What a joy to wake up to hear it this morning. I was hoping to find the version I woke up to and while I could find some Glen Haven choir videos, there were no "More About Jesus" videos that I could locate. So instead, I hope you will enjoy hearing The Blackwood Brothers Quartet.
