I love waking up to old hymns especially the really old ones that I do not recall hearing for a long time. "Let The Lower Lights Be Burning" was written in 1871 by P.P. Bliss. It has been sung and recorded by many artists including Tennessee Ernie Ford, Johnny Cash, Pat Boone, and many other gospel artists. It was enjoyable to scroll through You Tube this morning and see that there are a few groups that have recorded "Let The Lower Lights Be Burning" recently.
Growing up, I remember most hearing the great old hymn being sung by The Statemen Quartet. I loved hearing Big Chief and his smooth bass vocals. I remember as a teenager buying his solo album. Yes, Jim "Big Chief" Wetherington was, in my opinion an awesome bass singer.
I hope you will enjoy hearing "Let The Lower Lights Be Burning" from The Statemen's "Camp Meeting Hymns'" album recorded in 1962.
Praying you will have an great Saturday!
