It Is Well With My Soul

What an amazing, beautiful, incredible and uplifting song but even more so when you know the story behind the writing of this inspiring hymn. Written in 1873 by Horatio Spafford and first published in 1876, it came out of a time of great sorrow and loss. But as you listen to the words, you can hear and feel the author put his trust and faith in God both in the good times and bad. I believe this is why this hymn has stood the test of time, has been sung by so many individuals, choirs and congregations and published in hymnals of many denominations. If you would like to read the story behind the song, I'm attaching a link to the story.

I love to hear and sing and glad to wake up to "It Is Well". When I hear it, I can't help but think of Rev. Don Graham from Clanton, Alabama. Oh how I loved when I have listened to his powerful sermons during the revivals he has preached at our church. On a very personal note, I will never forget he and his wife praying with me when I was going through a very difficult period in my life. "I love you Brother Don" is a familiar phrase he would always request the congregation to say during his sermons, but those words certainly ring true for me. But I said all this to say, you can be sure, there is a good chance he will request this song during the service.

A few weeks ago, a couple of my friends had the opportunity to see The Issacs in concert. I was told at the conclusion of the service, they sang acapella "It Is Well With My Soul". It was so moving, my friends said they had tears running down their cheeks. I'm sure it was an awesome way for my friends to end their evening and I know it has been an incredible way for me to start my day! I hope this song will bring you a blessing today as it already has for me this morning!
