While I was listening to Brother John's message on Wednesday night, "God Works", the song "It Is No Secret" entered my mind. I had not thought about it for many years. This is a song that I listened to and enjoyed growing up. It was sung and recorded by many and I believe I recall it is the only song to ever make it to the Number 1 spot on Pop, County and Christian charts.
"It Is No Secret" was written by Stuart Hamblen at the suggestion of John Wayne. I wrote a little about Mr. Hamblen's history when I woke up to the song "Until Then" back in January. It is said, after Mr. Hamblen accepted Christ, he met with John Wayne and was offered a drink. Mr. Hamblen said, it is not secret what God can do and Mr. Wayne told him he should write that as a song and he did. As I said, it was recorded by many but I believe many will recall Elvis singing this beautiful song. Elvis loved gospel music and recorded several gospel albums during his life. I believe "It Is No Secret" was actually recorded on one of his Christmas' albums.
But I did not wake up to Elvis this morning. As I did yesterday, it was a delight to hear Jake Hess singing "It is No Secret" this morning. A kind of fun fact (well at least for me LOL), Elvis had many gospel music friends but Jake Hess was one of his favorites, had an impact on Elvis' life and sung at Elvis'' funeral. I don't know if Jake or Elvis recorded "It Is No Secret" first, but I suspect it was Jake.
I'm going to post a link to a "contemporary gospel quartet" singing "It Is No Secret" this morning. For you traditionalist like me, please forgive the electric guitars and drums. This "contemporary" quartet "The Imperials" features some of the best of the "old gospel singers" including Gary McSpadden who died just a couple of weeks ago. I hope you will enjoy hearing this old beautiful song this morning!
