It Gets Sweeter As The Days Go By

Wow is the word that comes to mind this morning as I start my day! After waking up in the wee hours of the morning not to a song but to tornado sirens, I thought this would be the first time in a long time I have not woke up to a song! When the storm passed, I lay there and wondered what I could write about "Tornado Sirens". LOL But I was able to fall back to sleep and to my delight, I woke to "It Gets Sweeter As The Days Go By".
It's hard to imagine waking up to this song this morning! It's still raining, thundering and lightning. But even through the clouds and rain, I could still see the night turn to day. Last night, during Bible study, Brother John read from Hebrews 11:1-4 and how our Faith impacts our lives. During the discussion, I thought about the song, "Living By Faith" and its words:
I care not today what the morrow may bring, If shadow or sunshine or rain, The Lord I know ruleth o’er everything, And all of my worries are vain. Living by faith in Jesus above, Trusting, confiding in His great love; From all harm safe in His sheltering arm, I’m living by faith and feel no alarm.
Though tempests may blow and the storm clouds arise, Obscuring the brightness of life, I’m never alarmed at the overcast skies— The Master looks on at the strife.
Well, last night it was "sweet" to be able to trust and confide in His great love, keeping us safe from all harm and His love is richer, deeper, fuller, sweeter... sweeter as the days go by!
A few weeks ago, I wrote about the song, "The Longer I Serve Him The Sweeter He Grows". I sometime think I over use the word sweet. I refer to so many things as sweet and while sweet can mean many things to many people, to me it means love, nice, like, good, lovely, enticing, engaging, enchanting, and I could go on! So when I refer to a piece of Red Velvet Cake (or the person that makes it), a bowl of ice cream, a special friend, a friend … well you get the idea, I simply use the word sweet to say, "I'm lucky to have you (or it) in my life".
Maybe "lucky" is not the correct word (way understated) to use to have God in my life. But after a long night of storms and little sleep (or little sleep for me LOL) and with my limited vocabulary, "lucky" is the best I can come up with. But instead of me trying to describe it, I should just let the words of the song say it for me.
Oh, the moment He saved my His good grace He gave me He placed His love down deep in my heart There's great joy in knowing with Him I am going And never more from Him to depart.
Yes, it does get sweeter as the days go by! And the longer I serve Him the sweeter He grows.
I woke up to one of my all time favorite old gospel singers, hearing him sing "It Gets Sweeter As The Days Go By". I have heard it sung for years by many. But I always loved hearing Jake Hess sing it. I don't know or think this was considered one of his "signature songs" but he was called on to sing it often over his long and remarkable career. I believe Jake was a "sweet" man who loved the Lord. His sweet spirit and presence on every stage was felt through his demeanor, smile and distinctive voice. I'm glad we have the Gaither videos, that save the memories of the great singers who have gone on, yet we can still hear their wonderful voices and songs of praise. I hope you will enjoy hearing "It Gets Sweeter As The Days Go By".
