Not too long after I started sharing my morning song, I wrote about "I Want To Know More About My Lord". I don't recall for sure, but I'm pretty sure I said something about my Uncle Johnny, Dad's youngest brother. I can not think about this song without thinking of him. I believe this may have been his number one song when he would lead congregation singing. He loved to sing! But he is not the only one, as I remember this song often sung in many church services I visited.
"I Want To Know More About My Lord" was written in 1947 by Lee Roy Abernathy. Mr. Abernathy was legendary in the early days of Southern Gospel music. He was known as a singer, teacher, and song writer. He even ran for governor of Georgia once. He was considered creative and innovative as he invented a way to print sheet music so quartets could sell single songs instead of song books. He also created a mail order piano course teaching many to play piano by mail, He was quite a personality and had a major influence in Gospel music during his career.
I hope you will enjoy "I Want To Know More About My Lord This Morning". If you want to sing along, it's page 6 in the Redback Church Hymnal.
I pray you will have a happy Friday!
