When I woke up to "I've Got That Old Time Religion" back in January, I had not thought about the song or remembered hearing for some time. But this year, it has come to my thoughts often and as the "young" Inspirations have resumed singing and Live Streaming some of their services, I have often heard them include it as one of the songs they sing.
I've thought a lot about my old time religion over the past few months while we've been (kind of) sheltering in place. I joined a FB group called North Georgia Revivals. It's a group of small country churches in North Georgia who have streamed their services. Now I mean that's some good old fashion singing and preaching. I told Brother John the other night, I've listened to more preaching in the past several months than I've listened to in my lifetime. LOL I also joined another FB group that focuses on vintage southern gospel singing. It sure is a good way to pass the time when I'm sitting in my recliner.
I sometimes have been kidded about my old fashion ways. But that's ok! I'm not ashamed or embarrassed. I'm thankful for the old time preaching and singing and the Holy Spirit that brought me to the realization I needed Jesus. I'm thankful the church had an old fashion alter where I knelt and I'll always remember my family and church members all around me praying and then the rejoicing that took place. It's hard for me not to be a little "old time".
When I woke up hearing "I've Got That Old Time Religion" this morning, I thought about a story that happened earlier this week. I was on the phone with a customer service person and after a short time of discussing an issue, he proclaimed, "I know you are a little old school". Well at first, I thought I was a little offended. I mean he didn't know me, but maybe my age and my thoughts did shine through just a little. But instead of being "offended" I starting feeling proud. I was glad a younger person could recognize that I was rooted in some old principles that have and will stand the test of time. But also look at me this morning, typing a blog on a notebook computer, with a smart phone sitting besides me, a large screen TV "streaming" the news over a WiFi connection. I'm drinking a cup of coffee made with a Keurig instead of a percolator. I may be "old school" but I sure like some of these new fangled things. But I love my old time religion!
I hope you will enjoy hearing once again, "I've Got That Old Time Religion" today.
Pray for our Sunday morning services and I hope to see you there!
