I've Got More To Go To Heaven For

A couple of Friday nights ago, I watched one of those online concerts like so many of the artists are offering during these stay at home orders. I was curious and interested in hearing this particular group as it has formed with two former members of The Inspirations and I had never heard them before. They sang many of the older Inspirations songs and it was good to see and hear Matt and Melton again. One of the old Inspirations songs they sang was "More To Go To Heaven For Than I Had Yesterday". I enjoyed hearing this song and it brought back a lot of memories.

I first heard "More To Go To Heaven For" in 1974 when The Inspirations first recorded it. It wasn't long, that some people requested the group I was singing with learn the song. Now I still don't understand why the tenor of the professional group was featured in their performances, but the bass singer in my group sang the lead. I still scratch my head over this, but I sang it many, many times and it was always my pleasure to do so. There's a lot I remember, but I especially remember, my grandmother and granddaddy enjoying their grandson sing this song. Of course, I realize, being their grandson, I could have sang anything and they would have enjoyed it. LOL Bless their hearts, there's not a day goes by, that I don't do something that makes me think of them. They tremendously impacted my life. In so many ways, they are the very essence of what this song is all about.

Over the past couple of weeks, since hearing "More To Go To Heaven For", I have thought a lot. (I mean when you're in isolation, what else is there to do, right? LOL) A lot has happened since I use to sing this song. I've made a lot of good decisions and a lot of bad ones. I realize that more days have passed me than lies ahead of me. I never dreamed that at this stage of my life it would be dictated by the length of my oxygen hose, or how long my battery would last or how well I can hold up without either one. LOL But I am so thankful for the life God has given me, what He allows me to do and I know that only because of His mercy and grace, I am where I am today. You may remember the old Dottie Rambo song with these lyrics, "Too many miles behind me. Too many trials my feet have walked through. Too many tears help me remember, there's too much to gain to lose."

" More To Go To Heaven For" was written by Jack Campbell. Perhaps by name, Mr. Campbell was not as well known as songwriters like Dottie Rambo or The Gaithers but in the late 60's and early 70's his songs filled the radio airwaves. Many of the top quartets and other artists filled their recordings with Jack Campbell songs. "Jesus", "I Know A Man Who Can", "Oh What A Happy Day", "March Around The Throne", "The Best Is Yet To Come", "The Next Step You Take", and the list goes on.

Since 1974, The Inspirations have recorded "More To Go To Heaven For" multiple times and I have sang it no telling how many times. Fortunately there are no known recordings of me but many of The Inspirations. I hope you will enjoy hearing one of their more recent recordings of this great song.
