I have woke up to several songs written by George T. "Dad" Speer and songs from the Redback Church Hymnal. I guess I should not be surprised, as these are the songs I grew up with and help lay the foundation for who I am today.
Dad Speer wrote "I Never Shall Forget The Day" in 1937 and its on page 130 in the Church Hymnal. But while I'm certain it was sang in church while I was growing up, I really don't remember it until around 1974. In 1973 or 1974, The Speer Family produced an album titled, "I Never Shall Forget The Day". It was an amazing album featuring so many great songs, like "Let's Just Praise The Lord", "Blessed Jesus", "God Has Not Changed", "Ten Thousand Years", "I Just Came To Praise The Lord", "Jesus Will Outshine Them All", the Dad Speer classic "The Dearest Friend I Ever Had" and a couple of more. I had no idea when I bought the album at the Woolworth's Department store I would enjoy it so much. I played the album so much it was turning white (now young people in this day of CDs and MPs know nothing about a record turning white from the needle playing the record. LOL).
Back then, I enjoyed all the songs on this album, but this morning, God has blessed me with "I Never Shall Forget The Day". The first video I found was from the Gospel Singing Jubilee. I believe this is from about the time the album was recorded and features the singers on the record. The second clip is from a Gaither video and few years later. The same singers just a bit older. I hope you will enjoy hearing the Speers singing "I Never Shall Forget The Day."
I hope you have a terrific Thursday!
