I'm Gonna Walk, Talk And Sing

Well, this morning's song is not one of those grand old hymns we have sung all our lives. It's not even one of those great old gospel songs we heard our favorite quartets sing over the years. But it is a song that is important to me and I'm glad to wake to it this morning! Please let me share why.

I have to take you back to 1968 and introduce you to a skinny teenage kid. He enjoyed church, singing, quartets as this was his life growing up thanks to his parents. He was a little shy and could not sing. But one Sunday evening, his life begin to change forever when Ms. Wade saw 3 other teenage boys along with this other skinny one and thought she could make them into a gospel quartet. That 14 year old skinny kid that could not sing was me and I will forever be grateful for the opportunity she gave me.

Over the years, I have learned the opportunity was not singing. It was an opportunity to stand in front of a group of people and share God's love through song. A small or large church, an auditorium, an outdoor pavilion, anywhere, I was able to share my testimony with others. I grew stronger in my faith and saw God working in people's lives. It helped me gain confidence in myself that has helped me over the years. And I must admit, though I have failed God many times, He has never failed me. I recognize, I am who I am today, of course for many reasons and 66 years of living but one of the strongest influences started that Sunday evening when Ms. Wade said, "David, Bob, David and Gary, I want to see you after choir practice".

"I'm Gonna Walk, Talk and Sing" was one of the first songs the boy's quartet learned. That skinny 14 year old kid tried to sing the bass part and Bob would sing the tenor. I think we sang it in almost every service for several years and the song is still etched into my mind and heart. Thank goodness, there is not a recording of us singing it (or at least I don't think there is) and there are not too many on the You Tube of anyone else singing it (I said it was not too popular LOL) but I found one I will share today.

I pray you will have a blessed Sunday!
