I suspect very few will remember this song. It was one of the first songs the boy's quartet learned and we sang it often. If it wasn't for the good Lord waking me with it this morning, I wouldn't remember it.
As I said, it was one of the very first songs we learned and was one of our "main" songs. It featured the incredible and talented bass singer (LOL) and Bob, the youngest member or the group. We loved singing in churches, auditoriums or any where someone would stop long enough to listen. I remember, one time, a man invited us to his farm to sing. We fished all day (and I don't like to fish) and then that evening, we sang for his Sunday School class or some group from his church at his cabin on the farm. It was a fun time! I was truly blessed to meet an amazing bunch of people and experience a lot of wonderful things singing with the boy's quartet. I give God all the glory and I'm grateful that Ms. Wade gave us the opportunity.
I've spoke of Ms. Wade numerous times throughout my morning posts. I think she was an amazing person, talented pianist and she loved God. She was awesome working with the boys trying her best to teach us to sing and to sing for the Lord. She spent lots of hours with us, practicing, playing each part for each of us with patience until she was satisfied we were prepared to sing. I can still see her across the piano as she played the bass notes for me to follow. And as she often would, she would stop and sing a few words of the part I was having trouble with and as she would sing the lower notes drop her chin down to hit it. (Now that I think about it, she had to do this quite often. She really had lots of patience with that bass singer.)
We loved and respected Ms. Wade. I remember one time we were singing at a church, I believe in Mableton, GA. and when we arrived and the piano was opened she was kind of shocked. The keyboard was "nasty". The guys found some paper towels and cleaner and washed it for her. She was a little embarrassed we did it but we didn't want her to have to play on those piano keys. I wish you could see "her" piano at the church, She played it so much and so hard, the black keys were wore down and they fit her fingers perfectly. If it doesn't show through the words I write, let me just say, I have great memories and love for Ms. Wade. I already had a love for hearing gospel songs sung, but she enhanced that love by allowing me to try.
I'm suspect you will not enjoy this song as much as I did this morning but maybe you can picture a young, skinny kid trying to sing it and it will bring a smile. I hope so!
