Several years ago, the Kingdom Heirs made this song popular! They have sung and recorded a lot of great songs but I think I will always think of them when I hear this song. It was a joy to wake up to it this morning, but not because of the Kingdom Heirs but because of the East Gadsden Baptist Church Choir.
Some of you will remember when the church choir sang this song. In fact, we sang this song on several occasions. I'm not sure if it was because the congregation enjoyed it, the choir enjoyed singing it or we just couldn't learn another one. LOL. Seriously, it is one of those good hand clapping toe tapping songs that gets you ready to "have church".
This pandemic has caused me to miss a lot of things, but one of the things I truly miss is the church choir. Honestly, over the years I have never really cared to sing in a choir. I had rather just sit back and listen to the beautiful voices raised in praise to our Lord. Perhaps, it is the
Wednesday practices I miss. They were a time with such a sweet spirit as we learned and practiced the songs. The laughter and the time together is missed. But hearing Karen, Linda, Becky, Roger and Connie and others sing in practice was amazing as they would practice and sound as amazing if they were singing before a large crowd. What a blessing!!! Perhaps it was Sunday mornings in the choir room. The excitement of preparing for worship, again the sweet spirit and the prayer for the service. Perhaps it was in the choir loft of having the privilege of looking out across the beautiful smiling faces of the congregation. I truly miss singing in the choir.
I'm glad we are able to have church services back in the sanctuary but it's kind of sad to look in the choir loft and see the empty chairs. But the way I see it now, Brother Roger is leading a larger choir at the moment, its just the entire congregation and it sounds just as beautiful. (It's still kind of strange to leave Wednesday night prayer meeting and not go to choir practice.)
The EGBC choir may never sing "I Know I'm Going There" or songs like this again. But I have a request. One day, when all is said and done, perhaps we can find a little spot in Glory Land, gather our choir together and sing a few songs of praise to our King. That may not be necessary when we get to Heaven but this old earthly mind sure likes the sound of the idea.
