"As I journey thru this vale of sorrow,
The way seems so strange and unknown;
Lord, I need a helping hand to borrow,
For I cannot find the way alone.
CHORUS:
I cannot find the way without Thee,
Dear Lord, look down from Thy throne;
And make Thy light to shine about me,
For I cannot find the way alone.
I have no other friend to guide me,
And I am so weak and undone;
Walk a little closer Lord beside me,
For I cannot find the way alone.
When the raging storms of life confound me,
Dear Lord, wilt thou keep me Thine own?
Let me feel Thy precious arms around me,
For I cannot find the way alone"
In 1954, the year I was born, Albert E. Brumley wrote this great old song. While the words have always been true, 2020 brings true meaning to this song. I read last night, where anxiety prescriptions have increased, suicide calls and actual suicides have increased. The protests and riots along with the virus have brought fear to so many people's lives. Staying in our homes more than ever, we have lost our meaningful type contact with our families and friends. Where can we go but to the Lord, to lead our way?
I cannot find my way alone. I've tried and have proved that I need his hand to guide me. I am weak and need His light to shine about me. I need to feel His precious arms around me and I know I have the safety, the security of traveling on this journey of life.
I have heard this song many times in my life beginning in the church I grew up in. In 1974, The Inspirations recorded it on their "More To Go To Heaven For" album. In their 1977 release of their "12th Anniversary Live Recording" it was another featured song. I've considered this to be one of Jack Laws' "signature songs" as he continued to sing it at most all of their concerts. Jack died in 2013 and Luke Vaught carries on the tradition of singing this song during many of their services.
I loved hearing Jack sing this great song and I hope you will enjoy hearing it this morning!
I pray your Friday will be awesome!
