As I lay there for a few minutes this morning, thinking about this song, I started to think how few times I believe I have woke to a song by the Gaithers. I believe this is the 193rd post and while there have been a few, it doesn't seem like many considering the number of amazing songs they have composed. "I Believe In A Hill Called Mt. Calvary" was written in 1968 by Bill and Gloria Gaither and Dale Oldham. This amazing song has been sung and recorded by so many and it has touched so many lives. I love songs about Calvary! When I hear one, I almost always think about as a teenager, when Buster, the pastor of the church would always want our group to sing "At Calvary" with him.
"I believe in a hill called mount Calvary
I believe whatever the cost
And when time has surrendered and earth is no more
I'll still cling to the old rugged cross.
I believe that this life with it's great mysteries
Surely one day will come to an end
But faith will conquer the darkness and death
And will lead me at last to my Friend.
I believe the Christ who was slain on the cross
has the power to change lives today
For He changed me completely, a new life is mine
That is why by the cross I will stay.
I believe in a hill called mount Calvary
I believe whatever the cost
And when time has surrendered and Earth is no more
I'll still cling to the old rugged cross."
I love the part that says, "I believe the Christ who was slain on the cross has the power to change lives today." As we discussed last night during Bible study, there is no doubt that in this troubled world there is a lot of change that needs to happen in many of our hearts. Brother John shared several passages of scripture but two specific verses, I hope you will read today; 1 Peter 3:8 and then verse 12. Can you imagine living in a chaotic world without the power of having in your heart what happened that day at Calvary?
I hope you will enjoy hearing the Isaacs sing this beautiful song as they were the first sounds I heard this morning!
