I Am Resolved

I believe this is the first morning in some time, I have woke up to a song that brought back memories of my teenage days. At first, I was not sure If I remembered because the youth choir sang it or if it was one of the songs sang by the boys' quartet. But my strongest memory was of the boys' quartet.

As I have said several times in my morning posts, the boys' quartet was an amazing experience for me. The nights of practice and Ms. Wade's guidance and direction as we learned the songs she wanted us to sing. Practicing to "almost perfection" (if there was such things for us LOL) the songs we knew, to be certain we were as prepared as possible for a singing. But arriving early at the church or venue in plenty of time, to go through the routine necessary to sing. Assembling the equipment, a sound check, making sure our hair was combed (LOL and yes, I had lots of hair back then). But I think the most important discipline she taught us about arriving early was so we would have time for prayer. I don't recall Ms. Wade ever participating with us, but the 4 boys would always find a quiet private place, a Sunday School room, outside under a tree, wherever. We would hold hands and each, one at a time would lift our voice in prayer, asking God's blessings on the service, thanking Him for the opportunity He was giving us and asking Him to help us do our best for Him. Those days, those experiences are precious to me today and I wouldn't trade those memories and opportunities for a million dollars.

"I Am Resolved" is another one of those old songs that is still often sang today. Written in 1896 by Palmer Hartsough and composed by James Fillmore, Sr. it has been published in a lot of different hymnals and is still in the Baptist Hymnal today. it is said, "I Am Resolved" is based on Luke 15:18 & 19.

"I will hasten to Him, hasten so glad and free; Jesus, greatest highest, I will come to Thee."

Maybe God selected this song for my wake up this morning because of the last verse. A verse that I love the words. It goes like this.

"I am resolved, and who will go with me? Come, friends, without delay; Taught by the Bible, led by the Spirit, We’ll walk the heav’nly way."

Today I will start a new "spiritual mission". I'm excited and believe well prepared to serve God in a similar yet perhaps a little different way. It still will involve visiting but with a different partner than my dear friend and Pastor. Brother John has taught me so much and I love and respect Him for what he does. But today I will visit with another person who I have tremendous respect for. Now we will have two teams out visiting on Tuesdays. Maybe soon we can change the words to the song to "who else will go with us?" as we reach out to the community to tell the story of Jesus. Please pray for us as we start out on our new endeavor.
