My morning wake-up song brought back some old and very fond memories. I don't know if you have ever experienced a revival meeting in an old country church. I suspect many of you have and in many ways I missed those days. The small church house would be packed on a weeknight. Windows raised and funeral home fans waving throughout the church. (As I think about it, I think those fans may have been moving to the rhythm of the song and the tapping of the toes.) It was so uplifting, to hear the congregation almost raise the roof singing their praises with songs like, "His Love Lights The Way". In my opinion, those were the "good old days" and I love thinking about them. I pray that the kids today, 50 or 60 years from now will be able to look back on today as the "good old days'. It's hard for me to imagine how they will but I will pray.
"His Love Lights The Way" is one of those great songs from the Redback Church Hymnal. I remember it being sung often. Not so much any longer but none the less, I still enjoy it and glad to wake-up with it this morning. I could not find much information about this song this morning. The Church Hymnal shows a copyright of 1938 and it was written by Allen Frazier. My quick research did not come up with too much but it appears it was only published in 3 hymnals over the years. (No wonder it's not sung much today.)
I woke up hearing "congregation singing" but I don't not enjoy hearing the recordings of many of the congregations singings on YouTube, but I found a link to a trio who I had never heard of before that I enjoyed so I will post that link. Do any of you remember the Isom Lee Trio? They use to sing "His Love Lights The Way" but I cannot find a link for them. Also, The Perrys use to sing it a lot I believe about 10 years ago. But I will post the link to the group I am not familiar with. I hope you will enjoy hearing The Dixons this morning!
I hope to see you in prayer meeting tonight!
