What a difference a day makes! I wake up yesterday to bass singing and this morning to tenor singing. "Hide Thou Me" is an old quartet classic and has been recorded by many including southern gospel, country and even Elvis is known for singing this song. In fact, my first recollection of this song might have been Elvis and one of Mom's albums.
For some reason when I woke this morning hearing this song, I thought about a time when I was in the boy's teenage quartet. We sang one night with a professional group for a benefit singing for the children's hospital in Atlanta. I was going to share the entire story, but when I looked on You Tube for the group and their recording of "Hide Thou Me" I could not find it. So I'm not sure my memory is correct but that does not shock me and I'm sure most that know me. LOL So maybe the "entire story" might need to wait until another time.
There have been many hymns written over the years around the Lord being our Rock. A few Sunday mornings ago, before service, Kip was playing over the sound system some old gospel songs and he played "Standing On The Solid Rock". I love when Kip plays old southern gospel music. I use to love when we could have Sunday evening services, I would arrive very early, because I knew he would be playing some of the best old songs. Thank you Kip. I miss those Sunday evenings!
Probably the best known and oldest of all the hymns written about the Lord being our rock is "Rock of Ages" written in 1776 by Augustus M. Toplady. In the late 1800's, Fanny Crosby penned the words to "Hide Thou Me". In 1926 anther version of "Hide Thou Me" was written by L. R. Tolbert and Thoro Harris. As I said earlier, this version has been sung and recorded by many. I guess we can all relate to feeling discouraged but there is encouragement and hope during difficult times.
Let's pray for our Sunday Services today!
