What a wonderful song to wake up to this morning! It was one of my favorites as a child growing up in church. My memory (which is not that good and never has been but especially today LOL) of this song goes back to my childhood and Sunday School. But I seem to remember it most as one of the opening songs of morning church worship service. As I sit here, typing this post, I'm trying to remember, but while I know all (or most) of the words of "Heavenly Sunlight", I think the only time I have heard it recently was in one of the Gaither videos.
"Heavenly Sunlight" was written in 1899 by Henry J. Zelley. Over the years it has been published in many hymnals and I think it is in our Baptist Hymnal. The words are so very refreshing to hear this morning as we continue to deal with the challenges we face in our world today. Our world today needs a little more "Heavenly Sunlight".
John 8:12 (KJV) "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
1 John 1:5-7 (KJV) "This then in the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin."
I've been hearing and reading, the experts have decided that the sunlight with its warmth and UV rays will help disinfect this virus. In fact, they just started talking about that subject on TV right now. I'm certain some "Heavenly Sunlight' is needed as well!
"Walking in sunlight all of my journey, Over the mountains, through the deep vale; Jesus has said, I’ll never forsake thee— Promise divine that never can fail.
Refrain: Heavenly sunlight! Heavenly sunlight! Flooding my soul with glory divine; Hallelujah! I am rejoicing, Singing His praises, Jesus is mine!
Shadows around me, shadows above me Never conceal my Savior and Guide; He is the light, in Him is no darkness, Ever I’m walking close to His side.
In the bright sunlight, ever rejoicing, Pressing my way to mansions above; Singing His praises, gladly I’m walking, Walking in sunlight, sunlight of love."
I posted a Squire Parson link yesterday so I hope you will enjoy hearing him again today along with all the others on one of the Gaither videos singing "Heavenly Sunshine". I pray you will have an awesome Friday!
