It was amazing to be woke with "He Broke The Chains" today. I must admit, I went back through all the morning song posts as I could not believe I had not been awaken by this song before. There is no telling how many times, I have listened to this CD and especially this song.
Back when The Inspirations recorded this CD, I was living in Columbia, SC and traveling many days across the state. There was no better way, to travel those roads than listen to gospel music and this was one of my favorites. When this CD was playing, I probably almost wore out the back or replay button for this song and a couple of others. I truly loved the video from the NQC in 2001 so that's the version I will post. It's a little hard not to clap your hands or tap your foot to this one.
"Once I Was Down In Sin's Dark Prison,
No One Around Could Take My Blame.
I Had no hope, no joy for living,
Then Jesus Came,
He Broke the chains.
He broke the chains of fear and sorrow.
He broke the chains of sin and shame.
He wrote my name way up in glory.
Since Jesus came He broke the chains.
In the tomb He lay such a cold dark prison.
And all the world, death seemed to reign.
But Mary cried, My Lord has risen,
From death He came,
He broke the chains."
I love the chorus:
"He broke the chains of fear and sorrow.
He broke the chains of sin and shame.
He wrote my name way up in glory.
Since Jesus came He broke the chains."
He wrote my name, way up in glory! I hope you will enjoy watching the video from the National Quartet Convention in 2001.
