Good Wednesday morning!!! I have always loved the fun, handclapping, toe-tapping songs many southern gospel quartets include in their singings. "Happy Rhythm" is one of those that dates back to the early 50's.
"Happy Rhythm" was written by Mosie Lister. Mr. Lister wrote many of my favorite songs. I have sung one or two of his songs during recent church services. When I mention Mr. Lister, I always enjoy listing some of his great songs that come to mind. "Then I Met The Master", "Till The Storm Passes By", "He Knows Just What I Need", "I'm Feeling Fine", "His Hand In Mine", "Where No One Stands Alone", "How Long Has It Been", "While The Ages Roll" and many more.
Mosie Lister was an original member of The Statesmen Quartet when they started in 1948. When a biography was written about The Statesmen and their history, the author titled the book, "Happy Rhythm". I think this embodies the significant impact Mr. Lister's songs had on The Statesman and all southern gospel music.
I hope you will find a little "Happy Rhythm" this Wednesday morning as you listen to the Old Friends Quartet with George Younce and Jake Hess. Now it's ok if you want to pat your foot a little if you just can't help yourself.
I pray you will have a happy Wednesday and I hope to see you in prayer meeting this evening!
Love that “Happy Rhythm Song” on this rainy day. Is Mosey and Hovie Lister the same person ?
