I love this sweet old hymn. I know I have woke up to it at least once while I've been sharing my thoughts with these morning messages and maybe a couple of times. I just don't remember. As this morning and any other time I hear "Hand In Hand With Jesus", I always think of my sweet Mother.
This is the song, Karen, Sue, Rick, Ron and I were suppose to sing at church one Sunday morning when I got the call, that Mom was rushed to the hospital and not expected to live through the day. I had just pulled into the church parking lot when the call came in and I immediately headed to Montgomery. Mom was so looking forward to me singing that morning as it was the first time I would sing in front of a congregation in a long time. Mom was my number one fan and biggest supporter when I sang as a teenager. I believe she sacrificed much to be sure I was always at practice and services where we sang. As I walked in to to see her that morning, as sick as she was, she said, "looked what I've done. I've messed up your singing." As many times as I have heard this song through my life, I will now always associate it with that day.
When Karen, Sue, Rick, Ron and I were practicing and trying to pick a song to sing, when we found this one, I just felt something come over me. I knew it was the one! I had listened to Glen Payne so many times sing it, as well as others and I felt as if it would be perfect. Well, I know now it was the "perfect" song for that day!
I hope you will enjoy listening to it this morning!!!
I pray you will have a beautiful Saturday!
I Love to hear you sing. Mother was your # 1 fan. She told me that morning before everyone started arriving Gary in singing today, I wish I could be there. It was so hard to hold back my tears until Dad got there and we told her what was going on. But, she did tell you she had messed up everything. She was so proud of your singing.
Gary, one of my favorites, wish I could hear you sing This sweet old song!
