Hallelujah! We Shall Rise

I can not remember the last time I heard this old church standard. Perhaps it was on one of the Gaither videos or it may even have been in the 80's while I was trying to play a guitar listening to Emily Harris' "Angel Band" album. This song was written by J. E. Thomas in 1904 on the 30th anniversary of his father's death. Through the melody, the counter-melodies, the harmonies, but most especially the words, Mr. Thomas was expressing the excitement, the joy, the rejoicing, the very thought of that day we talk, preach and sing about. Just singing the word "Hallelujah' creates an emotion, a feeling difficult to describe, but feels so good!

I remember singing "Hallelujah! We Shall Rise" often in church services (page 272 in the Church Hymnal) and more especially during revival type services. I remember the quartet singing it, and I loved being able to sing the bass part and singing way down deep, "We Shall Rise …. We Shall Rise". I couldn't do it too good but no one enjoyed trying more. LOL

As I looked through You Tube to find a link to post, there were many I enjoyed. The one from the Gaither video series is most like I remember singing in church so I will share it.

But since I woke up to hearing Emily Lou Harris, I will post the link to her "Angel Band" album also.

I pray you will have a terrific Tuesday!
